CSC Stresses the Need to Ensure Safe Internet Browsing

Contribute to preventing cyber-attacks, phishing, and fraud 

As part of the weekly awareness campaign of the "Cyber Pulse" initiative launched by Cybersecurity Council (CSC), the Council emphasized the importance of securing web browsers. Noting that cyber threats have become increasingly complex and widespread with the growing reliance on the internet in various aspects of daily life.

The Council highlighted that the browser has become the user’s primary gateway to the digital world and a key target for cyberattacks, necessitating heightened awareness and the adoption of effective preventive measures.

CSC further stated in its weekly campaign that browser-related threats have become both rapidly evolving and increasingly concerning. It pointed to approximately 750,000 browsing sessions recorded daily, reflecting the vast scale of digital activity. This, in turn, underscores the expanding scope of potential cyberattacks, as each browsing session represents a possible opportunity for targeting users through malware or fraudulent webpages, especially given the reliance on the internet for financial transactions, government services, and social communication.

The weekly awareness campaign "Cyber Pulse" indicated that this data highlights the risks associated with browser usage, including malicious websites, deceptive advertisements, and untrusted applications. These elements create a fertile environment for digital fraud and data theft, where users lured through sophisticated methods that could be difficult to distinguish from legitimate content, and increasing the likelihood of falling into cyber traps.

The Council affirmed that browser security technologies serve as a technical shield that protects users while browsing the internet, particularly on sensitive platforms. These technologies rely on a combination of encryption, isolation, and preventive policies to prevent breaches, data leakage, and unauthorized tracking. It stressed that implementing these technologies in an integrated manner ensures browser security.

CSC also provided a set of key guidelines to enhance browsing security, including verifying links before clicking, regularly updating browsers, and avoiding downloading files from untrusted sources. The weekly campaign further emphasized the importance of using security software and ensuring that security settings enabled, and measures, which the Council considers the first line of defense against growing cyber threats.

In addition, the Council stressed the importance of protecting personal data and refraining from sharing sensitive information through untrusted websites. It also highlighted the need for awareness of phishing techniques, which rely on impersonating official entities to deceive users. These threats have evolved from merely malicious software into sophisticated social engineering attacks that primarily target human behavior.

The "Cyber Pulse" campaign underscored that browser security represents the first line of defense and safe internet use begins with user awareness and behavior. As threats continue to evolve, adherence to preventive guidelines and continuous updates of digital knowledge remain the most effective means of protecting data and ensuring a safe and stable browsing experience. It emphasized that strengthening digital literacy has become an urgent necessity, not only at the individual level but also across institutions, companies, and various entities to build a digitally aware society capable of effectively addressing risks.

The Council concluded that cybersecurity is no longer optional but a fundamental pillar of digital and economic stability. It stressed that ensuring browser security is not merely a routine process, but a vital tool for enhancing transparency and integrity, especially in light of evolving cyber threats. This requires continuous updates of such technologies to ensure a secure internet experience and to reduce phishing, fraud, digital extortion, and other cybercrimes, many of which can avoided through simple measures, most notably ensuring browser security.

The "Cyber Pulse" awareness campaign, launched by the Council for the second consecutive year across social media platforms, is part of the United Arab Emirates’ ongoing efforts to build a secure cyberspace that protects users from evolving digital risks and keeps pace with rapid technological advancements. This initiative aligns with a comprehensive national vision aimed at strengthening trust in the country’s digital ecosystem, promoting cybersecurity culture, raising digital awareness among families and individuals, and reinforcing cybersecurity practices to ensure the safety and privacy of citizens and residents in an era of accelerated digital transformation.
